This October we returned to one our favourite Scottish retreats ... North Berwick.

Around 45 minutes east of Edinburgh by car and half an hour on a train from central Edinburgh, we love it.
This trip, however wasn't any old trip... we went large and booked a place with a sea view.

Because this time, my mum came along...

A very special lady who has travelled the world, but as life moves on, her world has got smaller, and she doesn't travel much any more.
BUT it was my mum who introduced us to North Berwick many many years ago.
You see, we used to live nearby in the early 1980's, for just a few years, but it made a mark on us, and we still visit all these years later.

We still love to rummage in the rock pools, eat lovely food & walk along the sand.
It doesn't change.
Sitting, just a few miles off the coastline is the majestic Bass Rock.

I've mentioned it before here, but it's so special, it deserves another mention.

The form may not change, but the way it appears, does.

Sitting from our lovely apartment over looking the sea, we could watch as the clouds passed by, and the light faded.

So when we got home, I began re-inventing the original print to try and capture the softness of the light as well as the un-forgiving mass that is the Bass Rock.
The white dots surrounding the island are the gannets which colonise during the warmer months, they create a haze in the sky above.

We had a lovely time & it felt so special, and lucky that we were able to visit.
When can we go back?
