The fairy-tale like architecture of Edinburgh has remained unchanged since the 1700s...
It's a city I know well, so when my daughter decided to study there, it re-awakened my wonder.
Every time we visit, I try to make a pilgrimage up Calton Hill which has the easiest, quickest and most breath-taking views of the skyline.
The castle, sits defiantly on the volcanic plug surveying the clutter of grey & sandstone buildings at it's feet.
The buildings are sooooo old...
Ignore the modern office block in the distance, and look in the foreground...honestly they are fairy turrets from buildings dating back over 200 years. Oh my, I can only imagine the ghost stories.
Walk down lots & lots of steps at the back of the castle and you'll find yourself in the Grassmarket, one of Edinburgh's most visited tourist hotspots.
It's irresistible to draw... all those wiggly lines at the top of the buildings, and all those tiny windows.
I came home from settling my daughter into her new home & promptly picked up a pencil and began creating a new print. It made me feel closer to her, despite her being over 200 miles away.
This one feels a bit wintry & cosy...very appropriate, as it's notoriously C O L D in Edinburgh.
That's why the Scots are so fond of Whisky, they need it to keep warm.
Even if you've never been, come and have a go at printing a few cards, they are really fun & easy to do.
Where next?
Somewhere a bit warmer maybe...
