For a lifetime, my hands have been making.
From the age of 13 I began selling what I made.
My mum worked in a large hospital in Glasgow & used to take the little pieces of jewellery I had made, into work. She put them in a basket on her desk & people would buy them.
Average retail price £3.50...say no more.
With the money that generated, I bought more beads & wire, and so the cycle continued.
Whilst I still find it hard to price my work, I am happy to say the average price has increased.
Recently I've been more focussed on teaching, sharing knowledge and supporting others.
The by product of that is that I now have drawers full of samples.
A few people have asked to buy some cards,
hand salve
or one of the embroidery letters,
but I usually just give them away.
The question is - should I sell my samples or just give them away?
It's something I've been mulling over for a while, and when I completed my accounts for the year, I realised how much I spend on materials.
I love giving things away, but it would also be nice to go back selling things to fund more making & more project development for classes.
So...
...here's what I've decided.
I'm going to sell SOME things, but carry on giving away others.
I'll do a drop for just two weeks, and then I'll close the online store for another few months.
If you want to buy something, that would be amazing, but if you'd just like to come to a class, that's fine too.
Does that feel ok?
If you want to be told when the store will be opening, send me a message, and I'll make sure you get first dibs.
